Obon is a time to remind us of how much our parents and grandparents, our ancestors, have done to make our lives happy. It is an opportunity to rejoice in the life that we enjoy, to express gratitude for all of the conditions, both past and present, that help to sustain our lives, and a time to reflect on the wishes our predecessors have for us.

Due to safety concerns over the COVID-19 coronavirus, the festival will once again be held online, so please join us.

Description:  The Virtual Obon Silent Auction will also be held. s a time to remind us of how much our parents and grandparents, our ancestors, have done to make our lives happy. The tradition of Manto-e during the Obon Festival is to light the sky with “ten thousand lanterns”, originating about 1,200 years ago. Manto-e lanterns can be offered in memory of a departed love one, so if you wish to do so, please refer to the Manto-e form to apply for one.

Great gifts for family & friends! Gift Certificates can be purchased for food items in $5.00 increments by printing out a gift certificate form, fill it out, and send it in with payment to the Temple Office. ________________________________________________________________________________________________

OBON Parking –

Parking will be available at the Mangrove Lot at 428 E. Temple St.(Alameda/1st st/Temple St). Free shuttle service will be available from the parking lot to Higashi Honganji from 11:00am to 10:00pm. Validation to park at the Medical Building on 3rd & San Pedro will not be available this year.

BON Odori Practice – Practice dates are Wednesdays and Fridays from 7:30 pm – 9:00 pm in the social hall.
